Important News Concerning Builder Licensing
Following excerpt
from the Secretary of State’s website:
“The Georgia Board of General and Residential Contractors will issue and mail licenses
on Thursday, May 1, 2008 to all applicants who have been approved for licensure. If you
have been approved for licensure and do not receive your license by Thursday, May 15,
2008, please contact the Georgia Board of General and Residential Contractors at
478-207-2440.”
Time is running out. If you have not sent your application in for the Board’s
consideration, you are almost out of time for the July 1, 2008 effective date of
licensing.
There is a meeting currently scheduled for May 7th - as well as a meeting on
June 4th - for the reviewing of received and processed applications by the licensing
Board.
Applications received, that are not processed by the June 4th meeting, could
possibly not be approved until after the July 1st date.
You are required by law to have a license on July 1, 2008 to draw any permit for which a
licensed builder is required. Issuing authorities are subject to a fine up to $500 for the
issuance of a permit on a job that requires a licensed builder being issued to a
non-licensed individual.
Building officials will be monitoring permit issuance closely.
Warranty on New Construction
The Residential Division of the Board has recently agreed upon a rule regarding the
required warranty on new construction. The proposed rule is pending Attorney General
Review, but it appears it will be posted and approved by the entire Board.
The proposed rule can be found here.
You should review your warranty with respect to the proposed rule to insure your
compliance. All sales on and after July 1, 2008 will need to comply with the rule and the
adopted current edition of the Residential Construction Performance Guidelines as published by NAHB.
